I have been looking for a job in finance but don’t seem to be having much luck. I have recently qualified from Hull, with a degree in math’s – I got a 2.1 so not too bad. But for the life of me the banks are showing no interest in me as junior in whatever capacity. I know that the market is not great but London employs hundreds of thousands of banking people. How come these guys have all got finance jobs? Does anyone know how many graduate get taken up with jobs in banking every year – i.e what is the annual graduate take-up per annum by the investment banks in London? Cause, in spite of my efforts, I am not one of them.
Initially, I approached the banks in person and sent my CV to the HR applications department, and hear nothing, then I went and applied to all the banking recruitment agencies like Robert Half, Page etc and boy did I spend a lot of time going for interview, explaining to them what kind of finance job I was looking for, they kept telling me I should have no problem securing a job. Well, 2 months later and I am still waiting. I then got thinking there was a problem with my CV or my grades, and all these bloody recruiters said there was no problem with either. So why the hell have they not got my ANY finance jobs coming through? Then as my last ditch effort, I have gone and registered with all the banking job site out there and have been applying for lots of jobs that interest me. I must admit, to date this has been the most productive with me having got some interest. Though nothing concrete thus far. Any suggestions on where I could be going wrong?
